A Cozy Bedroom with TJMaxx

Whew! We have been busy! One day we’ll get to updating the blog with some finished projects (why is this always the hardest part?) but for now, let’s dream up a cozy bedroom on a budget, shall we?

Whenever I’m watching TV, I almost always happen to be combing the interweb for the latest design deals—isn’t that what everyone does? My last web browsing brought me to my beloved TJMaxx, where one items lead to another and eventually, I’d created a whole room full of affordable pieces. I thought I’d share in case you too were needing a room refresh or perhaps just wanted to bring in a few new pieces.

Because the pieces are timeless and simple, they would work in a little girl’s room, a tween’s room or even a cozy master bedroom. All of the layers and texture evoke a sense of peace and calm no matter in which room they land.

-The quilt is a simple design that can be used even if you switch out pillows in the future ($49.99 for a queen).
-The ruffled euros are a great deal for $50 for the set.
-I love the depth and luxurious look of this rug—another piece that could work in many spaces down the road.
-Add in some soft color with these high quality Lillian August velvet pillows (also a set of 2).
-Layer the long 38” printed lumbar in front of the velvet for some added interest.
-Baskets are a clean room’s best friend. It’s always nice to have a basket to store (or hide) unsightly items for a quick and easy clean up.
-Cozy blankets are a yearly staple at our house— the perfect comfort for an afternoon nap or snuggling up with a good book. This chunky weave is a great option.

Favorite Black Doormats

I'm not sure if it's because it's summer or because we live minutes from the beach, but our guests always amp up around these months.  It's led to me taking a good look at my exterior decor and adding a few updates to our front and back porch.

One thing we desperately need to update is our front door mat.  It's taken a beating over the years and is screaming to be replaced with a more substantial, larger option.  So I started my quest for a classic design with a 48" width.  I found a few contenders and thought I'd share them with you guys in case you're needing an update too.  Now we can all welcome our guests in style!

Mallory's Summer Fashion Favorites

Well, this started out being a birthday wish list post, BUT since I've found so many of the items running on great sales, I've already acquired most of them (...and my birthday isn't until the 11th-whoops)!

So I'll call it a Summer Favorites List instead and share all of the items details and links favorite with you guys!  You know... in case online shopping is your thing too.  My husband says it's like Christmas day every day at our house because I'm always shopping online.  He can thank me later for saving him gas money ;)

ONE // These Coral Tassel Earrings will make a statement with any outfit (even a simple tee), and they are the perfect color for summer!

TWO // I purchased a black flutter sleeve shirt from BR in this exact same style this spring and get compliments on it every time I wear it.  I decided to add one more to my closet, this time in a fun pattern Flutter Sleeve Plaid Shirt.

THREE // I have a pair of snakeskin sandals I bought a few summers ago and have worn them out to the point of them coming apart.  I loved them so much because they went with everything (great for trips when you need to pack less!). I couldn't find another exact pair but these Snakeskin Sandals will be a great substitute.

FOUR // I spotted these adorable Fringe Sandals on a recent trip to Target (for almond milk and baby swim diapers--isn't that how it goes?)  I did a quick try-on and instantly knew I wanted them!  Great price for a knock-off look.

FIVE // I ordered this Large Tweed Pouch when BR was having a 40% off all sale promotion going on.  It's large, hence the name, and has a lot of cute colors in it.  The fringe down the side is just icing to the cake.  It'll be a great purse for a dinner out, and I've already got it in my suitcase for an upcoming trip!

SIX // My current gold watch is 8 years old and needs another new battery so I decided to see what other options were out there.  I somehow came upon this Gold Watch, and I love the large face and sleek design.

SEVEN // I ordered this Chambray Off The Shoulder Top in my first TJMaxx online shopping experience.  When you can't get to the store, get to the internet :) It looks so cute with white jeans, and you can't beat the $20 price tag!

EIGHT // I purchased this Embroidered Off The Shoulder Top at the same time and love the fun colors and embroidery.  It is a juniors top so I ordered up a size for a little extra length.  It was a little more than I usually like to spend on a TJMaxx top, but I couldn't resist the fun pattern for summer!

So there you have it--my summer favorites.  Enjoy! I know I will!

Hello Fashion World

Home retailer Serena and Lily expanded in to the fashion world this year. Fashion has always been a source of inspiration for many designers, so it doesn't come as a big surprise, especially since they started out as a textile company. Just recently they released their fall collection, which did not disappoint.

Comprised of timeless and elegant silhouettes, the collection reads as simple sophistication. Much like a great sofa, their staple pieces appear comfortable and are neutral enough to be layered with accessories to create a statement.

New looks at CB2

Typically associated with a more modern aesthetic, CB2 has expanded its product line to include items that are a bit more glam and some that are more of a natural/boho look. Here are a few of my favorites. Click the individual pics to be redirected to the item description.

The canopy bed is a show stopper and loving the art-deco inspired lighting. With my current pineapple craze, I must have the pineapple ice bucket.

I have been wanting to use leather stools in a kitchen design. These from CB2 would be perfect! The leather director's bench would be great in an entry way and the indigo curtains are so hot right now.

DIY Acrylic Frames

My husband and I recently hung a series of frames on a tall wall in our living room, and every time I walk by them, I smile.  It made SUCH a huge impact on the room.  The right artwork and frames can do just that—completely transform a space.

One type of framing that I’ve been swooning over for awhile now is acrylic frames.  They are so understated (letting the artwork take center stage) while also being complete showstoppers because of their uniqueness.

There are several tutorials for DIY versions online, including this one showcased on Home Depot's website, but you can also buy ready-made kits.  Custom framing doesn’t ever come cheap but these are actually pretty reasonable considering the size you can use—Home Depot has sheets as big as 4x8 ft.  Talk about a statement piece!

But if you do prefer to have the work done for you, Highland Hardware on Etsy is a great place to look.  They also sell the bolts needed, if you go the DIY route, in various finishes.

I contemplated framing a dress that belonged to me as little girl in an acrylic frame for Auden’s nursery a couple of years ago but in the end decided to use what I had on hand.  Now that baby number 2 is on the way, the idea is back in full force.  I think it would make such a beautiful piece in her room, especially on those charcoal slate walls.

What do you guys think?  What would you frame in your acrylic piece?
