trend crush: three color combos

I like to get a little trendy every once and a while.

Although in general, I tend to shy away from designs that are extremely trendy because 1: they automatically date a space, and 2: require you to keep spending money every few years so you can replace your once trendy space that has become overplayed and boring. I still appreciate and enjoy most trends, I just use them sparingly.

That being said, there are some trends out there that are so delicious that I can't help myself. These are some of the color combo trends I've been loving. If you're having a hard time picking a color scheme for a space you're re-decorating, maybe you'll find some inspiration from these beauties:

1. Emerald and Gold

This seems to be a non-trendy trend. Does that make any sense at all? Basically I think this trend reserves itself for those who aren't afraid to pick bold colors and create rich spaces. Emerald and gold is not a color combo for the reserved neutral lovers. Take a look:

2. Black, White, and Wood

This one is probably my favorite right now. It's timeless, it's clean, and it's gracious to all design styles. Black and white can be classic, retro, or modern. Wood instantly adds warmth and, depending on how you use it, can be traditional, rustic, or modern. All of these options make for several different style options with just one color combo. I love it.

Black and white marble tiles have been used for centuries. I love how timeless they are, playing up or playing down just about any space.

3. Mint and Yellow

I use "yellow" loosely here--it can be mustard, ochre, canary, or citron. All work well together.

Very trendy for nurseries right now with grey and white, but I like it with a warmer neutral like tan, taupe, or even a camel. It's a very playful and cheery combo, and it works well in eclectic spaces because having a moderate amount of each color specked about the room is not overwhelming. The two colors also give off a vintage feel as popular color to paint antique or thrift store finds. Outside of the home, I think it would work well in a bistro setting or dessert bar.

Here are some ways to use this combo that you may not have thought of before:

This is more of a citron or lemongrass, but I couldn't resist showing you that retro mint color on modern appliances -- a great way to pay homage to the classics with today's conveniences!

The yellow here is very subdued in the artwork and curtains. Just enough to give this room a fresh, welcoming feel.

Love it all!

What about you? See anything you like? New color combo inspirations?

I hope so!
